His Excellency Dr. Purna Bahadur Nepali, before being appointed as the Ambassador of Nepal to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, served as an Associate Professor, Head of the Department, and Program Director for the Master of Public Policy and Management (MPPM) program at the Kathmandu University School of Management (KU SOM) in Balkumari, Lalitpur.
In addition to his role as Ambassador, Ambassador Nepali is a non-resident Research Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School and the Hutchins Center at Harvard University in the USA. His research focuses on the political economy of inclusive agrarian transformation, with a comparative analysis between the United States and South Asia. He has also completed a Fulbright Visiting Research Fellowship in Global Development and Sustainability at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, USA, and has extensive experience in various South Asian countries.
For over a decade, Ambassador Nepali has been actively involved in research concerning land rights and food rights, advocating for evidence-based policy formulation and reforms in South Asia, particularly from a civil society perspective. Additionally, he has served as an adjunct professor at Tribhuvan University and the Agriculture and Forestry University in Nepal.
Ambassador Nepali is the visionary behind the establishment of the KU Policy Lab, which is a leading center of excellence in public policy and governance in Nepal. This initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, represents a joint effort between Kathmandu University, the Government of Nepal, and the University Grants Commission.
Furthermore, Ambassador Nepali is also the Non-Resident Ambassador of Nepal to the Republic of Maldives.
