General Rule for visa
Tourist Visa:
The foreign tourist visiting Nepal shall be granted the tourist visa. The tourist visa shall be granted for a maximum period of 150 days in a visit year (January- December).
Diplomatic Visa:
The diplomatic visa shall be issued to a person holding a diplomatic passport issued from any country and recommended from the concerned foreign diplomatic mission for the diplomatic visa, and to a person considered fit to be granted diplomatic privileges by Nepal Government and the family members of such person holding the diplomatic passport. The diplomatic visa shall be issued on the basis of reciprocity.
Official Visa:
The official visa shall be granted to the persons considered fit by the Nepal Government and their family, and the following foreigners and their family upon recommendation of the concerned foreign diplomatic mission:
- Administrative, technical and non diplomatic officials serving in a residential or non-residential diplomatic mission, Consulate for Nepal and incumbent Nepalese honorary Consul Generals, Consuls and their family who visit Nepal from a foreign country.
- Consultant experts who stay in Nepal under an agreement with Nepal Government.
- Employee serving in the Nepal based offices of the United Nations or its agencies and the persons holding the laissez passer granted by the United Nations.
- Employees serving in the international or regional organizations located in Nepal.
- Persons to come to participate in assembly, conference, training or meeting organized by Nepal Government or Nepal Government’s undertaking agency or United Nations Organizations or Regional Organization or other agencies there under.
Visa Section Opening times:
- Visa Hours :9.30 a.m.-12.30 a.m. Monday to Friday
- Visa processing time : Two working days
Tourist visa requirements:
- Duly filled Application form (which can be downloaded from here).
- One Passport Size photograph to be affixed in an application form and signature of the applicant should be placed covering photo and form.
- Copy of the Passport.
- Original Passport at least having 6 months validity.
- Immediate previous passport
- Children below 12 years of age should submit copy of birth certificate.
Official Visa Requirements
- Duly filled Application form (which can be downloaded from here).
- One Passport Size photograph to be affixed in application form and signature of the applicant should be placed covering photo and form.
- Copy of the Passport.
- Original Passport at least having 6 months validity.
- Immediate previous passport
- Invitation letter or any other documents that serve the purpose of visit
Visa Fees:
The SAARC nationals, including the Sri Lankans, are issued a 30-day free entry tourist visa, for the first time in a visa year. Thereafter, the visa fess will be applicable as follows:Fees to be levied while issuing tourist visa:
- US Dollars 30 for 15 days entry visa.
- US Dollars 50 for 30 days entry visa
- US Dollars 125 for 90 days entry visa.
The Embassy of Nepal currently charges the following visa fees, in Sri Lankan (SLRs) , for the issuance of the given type of visa and the fees charged in SLRS is subject to change according to the change in US$ exchange rate:
- SLRS 10770 for 15 days entry visa.
- SLRS 17950 for 30 days entry visa
- SLRS 44875 for 90 days entry visa.
